CytoSorb®

Regaining control therapy

CytoSorb® is a sorbent cartridge used as supportive therapy for:

  • Treatment of:
    • SIRS
    • SEPSI
    • Septic shock
    • MOF
    • Liver failure
    • Rhabdomyolysis
  • Removal of anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (Ticagrelor and Rivaroxaban) for emergency surgery (ESAIC guidelines 2023)

The sorbent enables blood purification in clinical conditions characterized by high concentrations of cytokines and other potentially harmful molecules. Modulating the cytokine cascade allows for the restoration of homeostasis and hemodynamic stability.

The ability of CytoSorb® to remove antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs allows intervention on patients requiring emergency surgery without the risk of drug-induced excessive bleeding, thereby eliminating the cause of the problem itself.

Summary of CytoSorb®

  • Pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines
  • Bilirubine
  • Myoglobine
  • Ticagrelor and Rivaroxaban

From in vitro and in vivo studies, it has been demonstrated that the sorbent can remove additional molecules, including bile acids, ammonia, free haemoglobin, and other drugs.
Adsorption occurs according to the concentration-dependent principle, meaning that at high concentrations of the molecule, there is maximum performance for its removal.

CytoSorb: What it adsorbs
CytoSorb® is composed of microsphere resin with a porous structure made of polystyrene-divinylbenzene and polyvinylpyrrolidone.

The properties of the polymer result in:

  • Low flow resistance
  • High biocompatibility
  • High hemocompatibility
  • No hemolysis

Acute treatments for 1 to 7 days, with a maximum cartridge usage of 24 hours.

CytoSorb: What is it made of
CytoSorb® operates on whole blood and does not require a dedicated extracorporeal support, but integrates easily and flexibly with all extracorporeal circulation systems, including:

  • CPB (Cardiopulmonary Bypass)
  • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
  • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy), both downstream and upstream of the dialyzer filter
  • Isolated hemoperfusion
